The Star Wars Miniatures Battles Resource

Before e-mailing me with questions, please read my FAQ.

The Star Wars Miniatures Battles Resource is dedicated primarily to the Star Wars Miniatures Battles published by West End Games in it's First Edition in 1989 and Second Edition in 1991. This is the Third Incarnation of this website and has been slimmed down by omitting the Roleplaying Game Material (excluding those that refer to the Miniatures Battles) and using only select pictures from the various gaming sessions and conventions.

Due to the usual interference from school and work schedules, the updating of this site as been scant. Here's the lowdown from the past several months.

Back in June, ApolloCon came and went. The game room was small, but there was plenty of gaming to keep those who've never gamed interested. I've got the pictures available here.

Several new Fonts have been added: Forced Reentry, Galactic Mini (a bitmap Aurabesh font for PDAs), Look Sir, Droids, Signotek, and Star Wars Kit.

I've updated several Links, some sites that have disappeared and added a couple of sites I thought needed to be included. Especially the UltimateGamingTable.org site, of which I did a video documentary for my Final Cut Pro class. A YouTube version is available (please rate and comment!) but a higher resolution .MOV version is available here (WARNING! The file size is over 1GB).

The "Take The Tower" scenario, which I planned on having back up on the site by now, is missing from my CD I did the backup from before the site move. I know I have it on CD somewhere, but I'm having to look for it. In the meantime, I'm working on an "Episode 2" version of the tower scenario to go with a string of games for a SWMB campaign setting I've had planned for a few years now. That scenario will be published after it's official convention playtest sometime in March.

And speaking of conventions, I will be running the aforementioned scenario Sunday the 11th of February at OwlCon. I also plan on attending ChimaeraCon and ApolloCon and I'll be posting news on the games I'm running at those cons after they open their GM registration.

As promised, there is no longer a Frames version of this site.

First, some of the usual gaming business. ApolloCon is now a going concern. I've got "Take the Tower" scheduled for Friday night and "Re-Take the Tower" for Saturday morning, with a SWMB scenario for Sunday to be named later (possibly even as late as that morning).

I also know this is short notice, but I plan on attending The Gathering of the Tribes at Little Wars. I'm not running anything as this is the week of finals and I just don't have the time to really do a setup I'd like, BUT I am dying to try out Gutshot after having played it last year and winning a set of Foundry Lawmen at Owlcon this year.

And now to school stuff. You'll notice the Frames link above. You don't have to use the frames unless you want to, but as part of my final requirements I had to throw one in. It's rather graphics intensive with javascripted image swaps. I also added to the Links page a form to add your own links and an e-mail form on the About Me page. You'll also notice on the About Me page a section of pictures of me. Please don't use the e-mail form to tell me how cute I am, it's hasn't been working right lately anyway. I'll more than likely be taking out the forms and the frames after finals.

I know I said I wasn't going to add a lot of extrenious HTML and CSS to this website, but things have come up over the past month that has required me to use this page as my final project for 2 classes. Needless to say in order to meet the criteria of those classes, there will be some small changes to the site (some I don't care for and will be removing after the semester is over) but the overall look will remain the same.

I've also tweaked the Gallery page somewhat to make it a little more eye friendly across different browsers. I noticed some complications with Firefox so I had to rewrite the HTML. The Links page is also been updated to include links to not only my favorite Star Wars and Gaming sites, but to some of my other favorite locales.

Well, with midterm projects done with and final projects in various stages of completion, I was able to get some gaming in the previous weekend. The Conventions page has been updated with the pics I took at ChimaeraCon in San Antonio. Although it was mostly just Jake and myself playing, we did get a mention in the local rag. Chris Quinn from MySA.com's Geek Speak had dropped in for a couple of turns of my "Re-Take The Tower" scenario. Chris was kind enough to not only to mention us in his blog, but also bring all the Stormtrooper's right into my line of fire. Jake was also kind enough to seek revenge and manage to wipe out most of my Rebels with his walking Proton Torpedo launcher.

A small correction to two of the Miniatures Gallery pages to get rid of some old code from my previous site. Added my Periscope tutorial. Updated the Fonts section to include the "Clone Wars" font set. Although I'm still reworking the Cons section, I did add a small set of pics from a game a friend of mine and I ran at his house. I also plan on having the "Take The Tower" scenario, complete with PDFs of the squads, posted on the site before the next con.

Now to the conventions list. ChimaeraCon in San Antonio, Texas, March 24th-26th, is my next planned upcoming convention, though I might just run the one game of "Take The Tower". ApolloCon at Intercontinental Airport in far north Houston, Texas , June 23rd-25th, is the one I plan on making after that, and I will be running both the "Take The Tower" and "Re-Take The Tower" scenarios.

This website is back online after over a three year hiatus. Aside from the new graphic, this will be a slimmer version, noticibly the RPG stuff has been removed (not that there was a whole lot of that stuff to begin with). The FAQ page will remain pretty much the same, and the Gallery will have the Conventions page added. The Downloads will now have all the Stats, Markers, Fonts, Scenarios, and Tutorials available.

Some people have also asked as to why the site is still in a simple XHTML format, especially since I'm in school earning my certificate in multimedia and web design. My first reason is the majority of web users are still on dial-up connections, and this site (especially the Gallery section) can be a little on the "JPEG heavy" side, eating up bandwidth. The less graphics a user has to download, the less bandwidth is gobbled up. Secondly, the XHTML standard is still widely used and accepted across the globe and can be used on most older systems. I myself am running on a 4 year old machine and am not looking to upgrade in the near future. My final reason is several sites I come across tend to use a small font that you can't read, much less scale up to a size that you can read it. This to me is one of the biggest annoyances on the web, so I allow the viewers of this site to set their own font and size in their browser.
